SpeciesBrenthia sp.
LocalityYunnan, China
DescriptionKeeping its wings outstretched and rotating erratically on the surface of a leaf, this tiny metalmark moth pulls off a surprisingly good mimicry of a jumping spider (family Salticidae) and its movements. Lab tests have demonstrated that jumping spiders, which normally constitute a major predator for small moths, will usually avoid Brenthia since an encounter with another spider could lead to a perilous confrontation.
